“She is a leader who will work on today’s complex problems because she understands the negative impact of inflation on goods and services for the average family.”

Celina is one of seven children raised by a single mother. She graduated from Ross High School in 1985 and attended Suffolk County Community College; she obtained a nursing degree. She is married and has three children.
Celina became a community activist after she noticed residents in the community she grew up in struggling to get essential services. The challenges and difficulties she faced in trying to bring about change in her community led Celina in 2002 to start a nonprofit organization called Bridge of Hope Resource Center, Inc. The organization’s mission is “to improve the lives of community residents.”
Why I’m Running
If anything, my life experiences and hardships have taught me to persevere. We’ve been here before, a weakened economy and unstable markets. Inflation remains problematic, with food and other commodities at an all-time high. These changes hurt families, striking working families in the pocketbook and hampering their ability to stay afloat. We need to consider investing in technological innovations, which can improve prediction and address future supply chain distribution issues before they occur, such as using multiple suppliers and manufacturers versus single and alternative fuel advances for heating and automotive. In addition, cutting-edge technologies can improve healthcare delivery and reduce healthcare cost expenditure. These changes can reduce spending, strengthen the economy, help lower taxes and cost of living, improve productivity, and increase resources. In addition, the emergence of new companies with technologically advanced capabilities translates into new jobs and creates a more competitive and robust economy.

ISSUES
ECONOMY
The economy continues to put additional economic pressure on working families and individuals. Prices remain high even post-pandemic levels with no sign of leveling up. The increased prices of goods and services mean tough times for American families living on fixed incomes and budgets. Many factors may be contributing to some of this problem. For instance, severe weather patterns in certain parts of the country affect agriculture. Not to mention the increased cost of fertilizers and raw materials. As a public official, my first order of business is going to be investigating what’s keeping prices so high and working with Congress to come up with food and energy reduction solutions. Create scenarios that can affect inventory, cost, and delivery due to natural disasters, pandemics/epidemics, supply chain disruption, economic downturns, inflation, gas, and food prices, and water contamination.

HEALTHCARE
Today’s rising healthcare cost is driven by consumer demand and healthcare delivery. Approaches to reducing healthcare costs must be our focus. We must use cutting-edge technology, which is beneficial, cost-effective, and can also improve healthcare delivery. The cost of prescription drugs price has risen astronomically driven mostly by pharmaceutical companies that work hard to make a big profit before most pharmaceutical patents expire. Working with Congress to change these kinds of practices by pharmaceutical companies, is one of the main priorities in reducing prescription drug prices. This may increase the number of affordable prescription drugs in the market. Provide valuable information to consumers about discount programs that offer rebates, and coupons, to reduce out-of-pocket expenses. Work with federal, state, and local governments to find solutions to reduce risk to Medicare, Medicaid, and other programs. “Promote healthy living – healthy eating” initiatives to promote health, prevention, and disease management. Increase substance abuse educational programs, mental health access, and treatments.

taxes
New York State taxes are the second highest in the country second to California. Tax increases make it almost impossible for most residents to afford to live in New York, raise a family, make ends meet, start a business, and buy essentials. High taxes have been a long-standing problem in New York State, and one of the reasons why many residents and businesses choose to leave the state in search of a better quality of life and lower taxes. Repealing the SALT Cap will help taxpayer once again have the benefit of increasing their deductions and tax refunds. Taking steps to reduce the tax burden on working families and individuals continues to be a primary focus. Allowing for more take-home pay, Incentives such as the Child Tax Credit, and tax relief programs, can help offset the high cost of living in New York State.

infrastructure
Suffolk County’s infrastructures are old and need to be updated to improve the quality of life of the residents. One example is our roads and bridges, which for far too long have remained in disrepair, causing safety concerns for all who use the roadways daily.
Decades of neglecting our infrastructures have strained our local economy, businesses, and residents. “Investing” in our infrastructures and “forecasting” are ways to try and reduce costs. Planning means addressing a matter before it becomes a costly problem.
For example, Suffolk County’s lack of sewer infrastructure led to issues with its water quality. From ground contaminants due to outdated cesspools and septic systems, the price tag was $400 million plus dollars in federal and state funding. In addition, federal, state, and local governments should consider preventative measures as cost-effective. For example, New York State’s cold seasons significantly impact our roads, bridges, and transit systems. A “New Infrastructure Maintenance Program” proposal would require that federal, state, and local governments allocate funding to continuously perform maintenance, improvements, and upgrades to our roads, bridges, and transit systems. In the long run, this approach can be both cost-effective and economical.

Work with programs that protect the environment and our natural resources. Preserving our air, water, agriculture, and open space is essential to our survival and that of future generations.

SAFETY
The opioid crisis and fentanyl use continue to be a public health crisis in our nation today. Finding effective ways to reduce overdose deaths is key. Working with Congress and community members to come up with solutions, resources, and funding is important. Education and prevention are vital efforts if we are to win the war against drugs.
Another public safety concern involves mass shootings. Working as a public official would involve enlisting the help and expertise of law enforcement and other partners to create an environment where residents in the community feel safe and secure in public places, schools, workplaces, and places of worship. Providing free information and education to the public on issues involving school shootings, domestic violence, child abuse, suicide prevention, and substance abuse programs is crucial.
